Robert Bean, an artist, writer and teacher living in Halifax, Nova Scotia has created a site-specific exhibition at the McLuhan Coach House 39a Queen’s Park Crescent.

Marshall McLuhan’s writings are illuminated by photographs of telegraphs, dictaphones and typewriters from the collection of the Canadian Science and Technology Museum, and by a series of video works that animate 100 of McLuhan’s original documents from the collection of the Library and Archives Canada. While the medieval manuscripts were illuminated by minutely drawn ornaments, Robert Bean’s photographs complement the canonical texts of Marshall McLuhan, capturing the technological transformations that the Canadian scholar brilliantly anticipated.
