Marshall McLuhan Centennial / McLuminations! feat. Prof. Verena Kuni

Celebrating the centennial of Canadian media philosopher Marshall McLuhan, rare archival footage is explored in a live, experimental format. Verena Kuni, curator of DIY: Die Mitmach-Revolution, McLuhan scholar Steffi Winkler and book developer Adam Hyde examine the transformation of the book into a radical cultural ‘user’s manual’ connecting all forms of media, expression and representation.

Celebrating the centennial of legendary Canadian media philosopher Marshall McLuhan, rare archival footage is explored in a conversational format. Richard Cavell, author of McLuhan in Space: A Cultural Geography examines McLuhan’s vision on the future of the book, and how, despite today’s dominance of digital media, the book actually reveals new possibilities, increasing its cultural significance.

The studio is a mobile zone for exploration of McLuhan’s thinking about the enormous revolutions taking place today in and beyond the book culture. To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the famous Canadian media philosopher, guests are interviewed at the Book Fair on “The Future of Communication” and showed rare archive footage from the collection of McLuhan Salon of the Canadian Embassy.
