Marshall McLuhan Featured in AMA (American Marketing Association) Marketing Hall of Legends Newspaper Advertisement

11Jan16

The advertisement below that features a picture of Marshall McLuhan is published in the first section of today’s print version of the Toronto Globe & Mail newspaper.

It was placed there by the the AMA (American Marketing Association) Marketing Hall of Legends for their Jan. 21 Gala, which I guess is when they induct the people who were recently selected for induction into their “Hall of Legends”.
See my previous blog posting about their announcement here: https://goo.gl/C5rvsj .

Under a picture of a seated Marshall McLuhan, in front of a tower of piled up 1960s TV sets behind him and piles of radio sets to his left and right, is the heading in capital letters:

The Philosopher King

I would guess that today’s Toronto Star probably also has such an ad in it, but don’t know about the National Post. I checked the Globe & Mail online, but didn’t see the ad there.

I wonder if Marshall McLuhan would be pleased to know that he had inspired so many generations of “Mad Men”. His expressed opinions about advertising and the “Mad Men” were decidedly ambiguous.

Thanks to Michael McLuhan for sharing the digital image with me.
