A Talk About the Role of the Journalist in Critical Public Discourse

14May23

A special talk with Philippine ABS-CBN broadcast journalist and McLuhan Award Winner (2022) for Investigative Journalism Karmina Constantino.
You are invited to an in-person event happening this Tuesday, MAY 16, at 6:00 pm. It’s at St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto, in the Charbonnel Lounge in Brennan Hall (81 St Mary Street, Toronto).

This is a special talk with Philippine ABS-CBN broadcast journalist, TV and radio news anchor, and 2022 McLuhan Award for Investigative Journalism, Karmina Constantino. For her presentation in Canada, she has chosen the topic: “Revisiting the basics: The role of the journalist in critical public discourse and in seeking accountability in a post-truth era” in which she explains the need to relentlessly inform the public of the journalist’s role in a democracy and why journalists should ask critically. Her presentation would describe how the public misunderstands media’s role and the need to clarify the watchdog role of the press.

This event is presented by St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto, in collaboration with the Embassy of Canada in the Philippines and The Estate of Marshall McLuhan, with support from the McLuhan Foundation.

The event is free and open to the public. You are encouraged to register online.

Looking forward to seeing you in person this Tuesday, May 16, 6:00 PM at St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto (Charbonnel Lounge, Brennan Hall, 81 St Mary Street, Toronto). Hope you can join us!
