“Counterblast” by Marshall McLuhan & Harley Parker, 1969

13Oct11
Inspired by Wyndham Lewis’s ‘Blast’ from 1914, Marshall McLuhan first produced his own version in 1954, then this little hardcover book with layout design by Harley Parker, published by McClelland & Stewart in Toronto in 1969. Note the “age of implosion” page, ” implosion in which everybody is involved with everybody”; Facebook and Twitter anyone? Blasting the beaver as a ‘symbol of our dammed up creativity’ is great and right on the mark.
